Twins Children

Twins Children

Twins Children are called those who are born together at some time interval. Both those children will be either boys or girls, either a boy and a girl. This is due to the changes in the zygote formed as a result of the fusion of the male gamete and the female gamete at the time of fertilization. There are three types of twins on the basis of changes in the zygote or fertilization.

  1. Monozygotic or Identical Twins
  2. Siamese Twins
  3. Dizygotic or Fraternal

1. Monozygotic or Identical Twins

In the early stage of the zygote formed after the fusion of the male gamete and the female gamete, the two blastomeres resulting from the first cleavage completely separate and each of the blastomeres or daughter cells forms a complete embryo. As a result of which two fully developed children are formed by two embryos in the womb. Both these children are of the same sex. The gene structure of both these twins is the same, that is, the color, form, size and DNA of both the twins are similar, their biometric or pupil of the eye is similar, their functions are also similar. If there is a difference, then it is due to their environmental influence or upbringing. These two twins are called monozygotic or identical twins.

2. Siamese Twins

In the early stage of the zygote formed after the fusion of the male gamete and the female gamete, the two blastomeres formed as a result of the first cleavage are not completely separated and remain intertwined in one way or the other. This zygote later produces the embryo, from which twins are born. These twins are connected with each other by one or the other part. These twins are called Siamese twins.

3. Dizygotic or Fraternal

In this, two female gametes interact with two male gametes at the same time to form two zygote or zygote i.e. two eggs interact with different sperm to form zygote. Thus two embryos are formed from two different zygotes which are completely different from each other. Both the embryos thus formed will be either of the same sex or of different sexes. Such twins are called dizygotic twins or fraternal twins. Being made up of two different egg and sperm, their genetic structure is completely different from each other.
